Shrine of Saint William
The stained glass shrine pictured here honors Saint William's patron saint.
It is the result of a project begun in 2000, when two parishioners donated money
for a piece of art in honor of jubilee year 2000. Parishioner Jack
Lindstrom designed the stained glass image, while Jim Cross designed and built
the oak pedestal. The piece was fabricated by Gaytee Stained Glass, Peter
Vonni Metals and Light A Dot Neon.
A brass dome holds four glass panels, each reflecting a theme or story about
the life of St. William of Vercelli. In one such story, St. William rode a
horse to travel between his monasteries and preach to local towns. One
day, a wolf came upon William and ate the horse. Unfazed, William gazed
upon the wolf, and from that time on, he rode the wolf around the area as he
would a horse.
The shrine was dedicated in June 2002 with a blessing from auxiliary Bishop
Richard Pates.
